A Listen to A Million Rich Daughters’ “Love Me After”

A Million Rich Daughters is a five-piece band hailing from Chicago, IL consisting of Brett Grant on lead vocals/guitar/synth, Rene Gutierrez on lead guitar, Taylor Ford on bass, and Jake Grant on drums. Looking over their Facebook page, one sees video clips of high energy shows, with all the members fully immersed in the music that they’re playing.

“Love Me After” is the first single from the band, leading an upcoming self-titled full length album. The single features Brett Grant on lead vocals, backed by lush instrumentals that are reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys, QOTSA, or RX Bandits. Uptempo, blending dissonance and consonance, the single is gutsy enough for those drawn to hard rock or even hardcore, but has much of the melodic and narrative appeal of prog rock and pop punk. “Love Me After” nests comfortably between many genres and would fit on a multitude of playlists without the listener batting an eye, but it’s still unique and ear-catching.

The song opens with crackling, percussive guitar and throaty bass, each element stacking up in anticipation for the first hit of surf-reverb guitar and vocals, propelling the listener forward into a flurry of elements that interlock and twist around one another.
