Clippy, Crunchy, and In Your Face: a Listen to “Seek it Out” by Boogie Board

Overdriven, fuzzy, and modulated, “Seek it Out” blasts out of the gates with an edgy, infectious groove. As I listened, I recalled some of the overdriven, 80s-inspired garage rock that Beck wrote for the movie “Scott Pilgrim vs the World.” I was also reminded of “Fell in Love with a Girl” by The White Stripes. There’s a wonderful grittiness to this track, and the repetitive, insistent drum machine induces a trance-like state that compels the listener to shake their shoulders and bob their head.

Every sound, from the guitar, to the drum track, to the vocals, is carefully modulated to all have the same amount of crunch — giving “Seek it Out” a cohesive sonic palate in which every choice sounds deliberate and curated. Saucy and garagey, the song just feel good to listen to, and because it’s so short, it’s easy to listen to over and over and over again. “Seek it Out” is a lot of fun. It’s static-y, it has a great vibe, and it’s just straight-up groovy.

If you’re a fan of tradtional DIY jams, David Lynch, the 80s, or that weird Max Headroom television hack, then I have a hunch you’ll enjoy “Seek it Out.” I know that I’ll be adding Boogie Board to my rotation for its funky beats and surfy, fuzzy guitar grooves.
