Lilting Indie: a Listen to “Extended Play” by Busy Bodies
Tasty, Americana-influenced, midwest indie blossoms on Busy Bodies’ new EP, aptly titled “Extended Play.” Playing with slide guitar, bluegrass harmonies, and catchy grooves, “Extended Play” is the perfect release for summer daydreaming. Each track is distinct and the EP doesn’t get repetitive, but retains its palatable Americana flavor that weaves in and out of being confrontational and lackadaisical. Overall, “Extended Play” is a pleasant album — relaxing and effortless.
The first half of the album has a couple of mix inconsistencies and tends to feel a bit more sparse than the back half, which is where the band really comes into their own and adds more flavor to the tracks. In addition, the EP transitions from a place a little more centered in country and Americana sounds to be firmly rooted in twinkly indie rock territory. “In Your Cloud,” the single from the EP, has beautiful highs and unique instrumentation that really makes it stand out.
If you’re a fan of folk, indie rock, or even midwest emo (because there are some really nice twinkly moments on the EP), I’d suggest that you take a listen to “Extended Play” when it’s released on June 7th, 2019. Calming and dreamy, Busy Bodies have created six tracks that are easy on the ears and soothing to the soul.
