If you enjoy comic books and all things nerdy, then The Bannermen will definitely fill you with joy. With song titles like “Iron Fist” and “Juggernaut,” it’s easy to see where The Bannermen pulled the inspiration for “Ice or Fire” from. This album has a fun sound and gets your toes tapping. Pair this album with your favorite graphic novel and a cup of tea or a bottle of beer, and you’ll have a nice afternoon on your hands.

Full of catchy guitar riffs, “Ice or Fire” has a pretty classic 70s rock sound that stays consistent and tight. Each song follows a clear narrative and seeks to tell a story. Every member of The Bannermen is a consummate musician, and one can tell that they work together well. Their sound reflects collaboration between members and it pays off in the well thought out way every song is structured.

As is common for me, I have a mix note. The mix is fairly stagnant and treble heavy, and I would have loved to hear some more headroom and a warmer bass and guitar sound to give the vocals a nice bed to lay on. “Ice or Fire” still has a great sound, but personally I love for everything to have its own space in the mix and I tend to favor warm mixes.
