A little midwest emo-y, a little 90s post punk, a little 00s pop punk, a little grunge. Super Neutral combines many rock influences into a neat 12-track album with thoughtful lyrics and enthusiastic guitar solos. With just the right amount of sadboi core, “Nervous System” is the perfect crunchy album for long car rides or rough days. Songs that are energetic and introspective populate this album and create a well-rounded listening experience.

The album is mixed well, and has the bass up in the mix, which is the most often overlooked aspect in this genre of music. However, I think the vocals need a little bit more space in the mix to clarify the gang vocals and the lyrics. Since the mix is layered and dynamic, it would be nice if the vocals had room to shine and pull everything together. However, the mix is still good and sounds pleasant.

True to rock’s roots but still fresh, Super Neutral delivers great guitar tone, compelling lyrics, and a crisp mix. If you’re a fan of late 90s/early 00s rock music, then “Nervous System” should have a spot on your playlist.
