Wacky and Tacky: a Listen to
“An Oil Painting Of Bono That Resembles Stevie Wonder” by Titty Citty
Imagine if the B52s were incredibly raunchy. That’s Titty Citty. Crooning about queefs and penises, this Chicago punk group are goofy, fun, and naughty. With new wave influences as well, Titty Citty has put out an album that’s wild and perfect for the person who loves Adult Swim and going to punk shows on the weekends. It’s clear that the most important aspect of this album is to have fun and bring life to the party, and Titty Citty have cornered their specific market with their incredibly off-color humor and devil-may-care arrangements.
Characteristic of punk albums, the mix is pretty treble-heavy and not particularly texturally dynamic, but if you like fast, loud, and crispy, then you’ll enjoy the sound. There are moments where the mix is more unstable, or where someone is out just a little bit, and these moments are used to enhance moments in the song and elevate the joke in the tune. Titty Citty was very intentional in the way that each song delivers its story, and the comedic timing is quite good.
Overall, if you’re a fan of bawdy jokes and rowdy punk music, then Titty Citty will appeal to you. “An Oil Painting of Bono That Resembles Stevie Wonder” is a funny, energetic album that will get your toes tapping.
